The time finally arrived; Rihanna presented her Savage X Fenty collection to conclude the 2018 New York Fashion Week.
We were completed stunned at the conclusion to one of the biggest fashion events of the world last night as Rihanna went out with a bang. Her highly anticipated show celebrated female empowerment, solidarity and sisterhood in a brilliantly choreographed performance to launch her new lingerie collection. The brand that launched earlier in Spring, gave its first presentation at NYFW, emphasizing its brand ethos of all-inclusive female underwear. Not only is this something so refreshing to see, Rihanna took this one step further by introducing women of all shapes and sizes, including two pregnant women on the catwalk.
Nothing short of breath-taking, the catwalk was choreographed as a beautiful dance performance including women of different races. The Hadid sisters have made multiple appearances on the catwalk this season, and the Savage X Fenty runway was no exception. However, it was pregnant Slick Woods who stole the show, wearing glitter stocking and a revealing lace one-piece to accentuate her baby bump. Another pregnant model walked the show as a statement towards body image, delivering a powerful message that every woman deserves to feel sexy- We couldn’t be more in love!
Even though we love the Victoria’s Secret catwalk each year (despite the envy we may feel when we do watch) it is safe to say the lingerie catwalk can very… same old. We love Ri-Ri for breaking the boundaries and doing something edgier and with attitude, with a body positive message that everyone can appreciate.
At the end of the show, Rihanna emerged in a tan ruched body-con dress and walked alongside the models to Evils Presley’s ‘Love Me Tender’. We can’t get over such an incredible ending to the event, showing a strong female stance and representing a community of women, all of which teach us to embrace our sexuality and our bodies.
